Inflict sweet pain on yourself and work your soft tissue: use a foam roller. I personally use a small one as I have to travel with it and I live in a tiny co-op with my family. I think that a long roller is easier to use though.
I find the roller to be the next best thing to deep tissue massage and much cheaper (though no substitute!).
How do you use it? Well, Eric Cressey (strength&conditioning genius) has a great video up on youtube. I will simply link to it as I haven't figured out how to embed video yet (someone help!).

I now have training privileges at Spartacus Athletics which is located at Commercial Drive and Grant in East Vancouver. Hey Terminalistes, Terminalistas, and assorted readers! One more thing: if you dig old school strongmen and old school methods then do yourself a favour and check out the Sandow Plus site. Apart from an awesome collection of old photos the site contains scans of many vintage texts written by the Golden Age heroes of strength. I can't wait until the day when I have time to really dig into them. For those who need the skilled hands of an RMT for injury prevention or rehabilitation, or if you just dig the pain of deep tissue work, you might want to check out Andrew McCully RMT. |
