Jen, Counsellor:
Working with Al has been so rewarding. I have gone to the gym for a few years now but have always had overuse injuries that made me feel stuck despite my enthusiasm and effort. Working with Al has given me the focus and knowledge that I needed to move forward in my workouts. He is able to work on the whole picture - not only physical fitness, but the emotional and mental aspects that keep you from reaching your potential. He is also endlessly patient and encouraging on the days when I need it most. That really is invaluable.

Working with Al has been simultaneously a rewarding and challenging experience. With Al's expert guidance and inexorable patience I have made significant progress in all the areas that we discussed prior to starting the program. If you're looking for a competent, skilled and highly personable trainer than Al and Terminal City Training is the perfect fit for you. Word to the wise, don't fear the sandbag...

Vanessa, Human Resources:
I began my journey with Terminal City Training about a year ago. I was a dedicated runner who was nursing a few injuries, and yet, I stubbornly refused to relinquish my strict cardio-only regime. To me, running was the only way to attain the fitness results that I wanted, and, in spite of the fact that it was actually causing me physical pain, I was initially very sceptical about incorporating strength training into my routine. Clearly, I needed a bit of guidance, but you know the old adage about not approaching a wild animal caught in a trap, even if only to help, because it will probably bite your face off? Yeah, well, basically that was me. Fortunately, Al doesn’t scare easy.
Over the past year, Al has worked patiently and tirelessly, introducing me to a range of highly effective and beneficial practices which have drastically improved my level of fitness, my confidence and my overall health, both physically and mentally. The techniques that Al has taught me have made me more efficient when working out on my own, and he has been resourceful and responsive whenever I posed a question to him. I have been impressed with the depth and diversity of his knowledge, as well as his passion for developing unique plans that truly reflect the needs and goals of his clients.
When I first started working out with Al, I could barely dead lift a barbell by itself, a mere 45#, and I am now proud to say that I have almost reached my self-set goal of 160# (go me!). I am completely astounded at how much I have achieved in such a short time, and I have absolutely no doubt that it is a direct result of Al’s conscientious, unique and innovative approach to personal training. Thanks, Al!

Andrea Smith, Graduate Student:
I never thought of myself as the type of person who needed coaching, but I started working with Al at Terminal City after I'd run myself down through a prolonged period of stress and physical inactivity. I had gained weight, I was tired all the time, craved sugar and junk foods and had poor mobility due to aching joints and a weak back. After three months, I feel like I've developed both physical and mental strength in ways I didn't know were a possibility for me. I stand taller, have more energy, and feel better in my body. I sleep and eat well, and I can move freely. Most gratifying and least expected, I have a more positive, resilient approach to my daily life. Al is a rigourous yet patient trainer. His calm good humour is balanced by a natural gravitas which encourages you to treat yourself seriously as an athlete, no matter your history or current physical condition. I would recommend Al to anyone who wants to be stronger and healthier, but especially to people who are intimidated by the idea of trying a more intense workout regime and being coached. You owe it to yourself to try working with Al.

Yvette Ipsaralexi, Roller Derby Competitor:
I started training with Al as a way to cross-train off the roller derby track. Al puts a lot of thought into each workout, and is also great at improvising on the fly. He takes into account my injuries, my roller derby schedule, and my thoughts about where I think I could improve. He researches the sport and adapts workouts to my needs. And I appreciate how he considers the mental aspect as much as the physical.
Al encourages constantly and pushes me right to the edge at each workout. And then he breaks out the sledgehammers and makes us bearwalk and crabwalk! Al works us hard, and he keeps workouts fun.
